Roxon to talk disaster in Indonesia

Attorney-General Nicola Roxon is to discuss strategies for reducing disaster risk with her law, justice and emergency management ministerial counterparts in Indonesia.

Ms Roxon this week is scheduled to attend the 5th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, a biennial event focused on the implementation of the United Nations’ Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: building the resilience of nations and communities to disasters.

“No country is immune to the destruction and damage caused by natural disasters and this conference is about sharing ideas and strategies to better plan and prepare for disasters,” Ms Roxon said in a statement on Monday.

Those attending will contribute to a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction following the expiration of the current agreement.

During the visit Ms Roxon will also meet with her Indonesian counterparts to canvass views on a wide range of law and justice issues and on fighting transnational crime such as terrorism, people smuggling and money laundering.[]
