Phuket improves tsunami warning system

tsunami at Pukhet Thailand ( local government in Phuket island, one of the hottest tourist destinations in Thailand, has improved its tsunami warning system, on the 8th anniversary of the deadly Indian Ocean tsunami.

Local authorities have built tsunami emergency towers at 19 different locations on the island. They’ve also erected signs pointing to easy escape routes. Local residents are being offered Tsunami “awareness education”, with authorities organizing a number of preparation exercises.

Director of disaster prevention office said, “I don’t think tourists here should be worried.

Usually, there could be earthquakes before a tsunami. And if a quake occurs, we will immediately predict the possibility of a tsunami.”
