Jakarta — Energy-saving campaign through Earth Hour event together with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia on the yard of Independence Declaration Monument, Central Jakarta, is held again tonight, Saturday (3/23). The event which started at 8.30 PM until 9.30 PM can save electricity energy as much as 236 megawatts (MW). If such amount of electricity energy is converted to rupiah, it will be worth of Rp 260 million.
“Last year we saved 213 MW, and now it increases to 236 MW. The amount of energy saved always increases every year. If all cities and regents in Indonesia participated in the event, it will increase even higher. We must attempt to be frugal in all terms. In Jakarta, we will direct all buildings to be eco buildings and green buildings,” stated Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Saturday (3/23) night after the Earth Hour even finished.
According to State Electric Company (PLN) Regional Organizer Manager for Jakarta and Tangerang, Bimo Samudro, this year’s Earth Hour saves electricity energy as much as 236 MW. While last year, the amount of electricity energy saved was 213 MW.
“Jakarta and Tangerang areas PLN saves energy worth of Rp 260 million. The event also did not affect the soccer match at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium,” he uttered.
