Banda Aceh — Chemical Engineering Department of Syiah Kuala University, Technical University of Vienna, Austria and International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) establish the seminar about waste management in Banda Aceh. the activity with the title “Seminar and Workshop on Landfill Operation and Management in Tropical Country” is be held about two days on August, 27-28 at Hermes Palace Hotel in Banda Aceh.
“This activity was opened by Syiah Kuala University Rector. The seminar and workshop are aimed to observe about technology and landfills management,” Dr M Faisal M. Eng said by email on Sunday, August 26.
It was explained that solid waste management is one of serious issues in uptown in several development countries like Indonesia. Recently, large amount of waste are stationed in Landfill. However, many people do not realize that if the waste management have not properly organized, landfill will cause negative effects for environment.
“The negative effects that will appear are water pollution and air pollution. Nowadays, the environmental engineers have active in waste management activity in order to solve the environment problems, and it will give positive advantage as well, ” He said.
It was mentioned, international event level is followed by researcher, academic staff, related department, students, and landfill operator from several cities in Indonesia to brainstorming and to discuss about new inventions in landfill management. The subjects that are discussed in the seminar are including: Landfill strategy and concept, the landfill’s challenge in tropic area, landfill operating and management, and also old landfill stabilization and rehabilitation.
