Aceh provincial city of Banda Aceh has received the Adipura award as one of Indonesia’s cleanest cities, Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.
The award was presented by Environment Minister Balthasar Kambuaya at the State Palace on the occasion of the World Environment Day celebrations here Monday.
“This is the sixth time for Banda Aceh to receive the award. We have received the same award in 1995, 1996, 2009, 2010 and 2012,” Banda Aceh Vice Mayor Illiza Saaduddin said Tuesday.
She said the award should be a momentum for local people and government officials to maintain and improve Banda Aceh’s standard as an environmentally sustainable city.
A total of 149 cities/municipalities and districts out of 374 entries received the awards this year, compared to 125 municipalities and districts in 2012.
The Adipura awards are given to recognise cities, municipalities and districts in the country for their cleanliness.
